Dear Members,
As the year races on, we’re thrilled to share all the amazing activities and achievements happening across Portarlington RFC. From successful fundraisers to teamwork at training and matches, our club continues to grow and thrive, thanks to you, our brilliant members. Whether you’re cheering from the sidelines, coaching, playing, or volunteering, your contributions make this club what it is. Let’s hear about our successful month and look ahead to an exciting December!
Your Club, Your Country – A Massive Success!
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported our Your Club, Your Country campaign! With over €7,000 raised, we’re one step closer to installing LED floodlights for our first pitch and car park. A special shoutout to our minis and youths, whose contributions played a major role in this success. This achievement highlights what we can do together as a club. Thank you for helping us light up Portarlington RFC!
Jersey Swap – Extended Deadline
Due to recent cold weather, we had to postpone the jersey swap. But there’s still time to donate! If you have old jerseys, shorts, or half zips, drop them off with our Minis Coordinator, Amy O’Connor. Each item will be sold for €5 at the swap, with proceeds going back into the club. Let’s keep gear in play and support the club at the same time!
Give It a Try – U16 & U18 Success
Our U16 and U18 squads hosted a fantastic Give It a Try session, welcoming new faces to the game. If you missed it, don’t worry, training continues every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00–8:30pm. New players are always welcome, so spread the word!
Introducing ‘Vintage Port’
We’re thrilled to announce our new social (touch) rugby team, Vintage Port! Designed for seasoned players (both male and female) looking to get back into the game, it’s all about fitness, fun, and a bit of craic. Join us this Friday at 6:30pm to get involved!
Girls U12 National Festival
Our U12 girls had a phenomenal day at the IRFU Girls Mini Rugby National Festival in Edenderry. With the largest numbers of any club, Portarlington fielded two teams and showcased amazing rugby skills. The spirit of the game shone brightly as our players also helped other teams field full squads. With nearly 45 girls training regularly, the future of girls’ rugby in Portarlington is incredibly bright. A huge thank you to our dedicated coaches for making this possible!
Team Highlights
Seniors
Our Senior Men had 2 fantastic wins this month, defeating Portlaoise (28-17) and Rathoath (50-13). Hard work at training is paying off!
Our Senior Women have been training consistency and it all payed off when they delivered a well deserved victory against Arklow (27-15). Keep it up, ladies!
Youths
Our youth teams are training in impressive numbers, and their match performances reflect it. The future of Portarlington RFC is in safe hands with these rising stars.
Minis
Despite the cold, our minis keep turning out in droves for training. We hosted our first blitz of the season against Athy and it was a great success, we had massive numbers and seeing all the families together for a fun-filled morning of rugby is what it’s all about. If your child is interested in joining minis rugby, come down on Saturdays at 10am and see what it’s all about!
