Newsletter for October

Dear members and friends of Portarlington Rugby Club,

As the days get shorter we’re thrilled to see the energy and dedication across all levels of our club. October was a fantastic month, packed with new sign-ups, great games, and incredible support from our community. As we head into November, we’re excited to build on this momentum with more events, matches, and opportunities to come together. Thank you to everyone who contributes to making our club a vibrant, welcoming place for rugby lovers of all ages. Here’s to another great month!

Give It a Try Event was a huge success!

Our recent "Give It a Try" event was a tremendous success, attracting over 100 new sign-ups! We’re thrilled to see so many young faces eager to dive into the game, and numbers are continuing to rise. Our CCROs have been hard at work in the primary schools, and their efforts are paying off. Kids are loving the rugby sessions, bringing great energy to the pitch and joining regular training. If your child is interested in playing rugby, come out this Saturday from 10:00-11:00am to give it a try!

Walking Track Grant Awarded

We’re excited to announce that Portarlington Rugby Club has received a grant from the government’s Healthy Ireland Walking Track Initiative! This funding will help us develop a walking track around our facilities, creating a safe and fun environment for the whole community. This track will be a great addition for both club members and the wider community, providing a space for healthy outdoor activity.

Updates from Our Rugby Teams:

Minis Rugby

Our Minis team kicked off their season with their first blitz in Portlaoise. It was a fantastic day filled with excitement, and it’s wonderful to see our Minis numbers growing. Every new member adds to the energy and spirit of our club, and we’re thrilled to have so many young players getting involved!

Youths Rugby

Our Youths teams have been excelling in their leagues this month, with some of our players representing Portarlington on the North Midlands teams. Congratulations to Odhrán O’Reilly with the U17 Boys, Killian James with the U16 Boys, and Rachel Carey (Captain), Réaltín Whiteley, Eabha Lawlor, and Nicole Walsh with the U17 Girls. You all make your club proud!

Senior Rugby

Our Seconds team started strong, winning their first match of the season against Portlaoise with a score of 34-19. Our Senior Men's team is also performing well, currently in Division 2B, with two consecutive wins against Midland Warriors and Arklow. Our Senior Women are playing well, putting in hard work in Division 2. They’ll be competing in the Anne Fitzpatrick Cup this weekend, and we wish them the best of luck!

As October wraps up, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this month so memorable. From new players joining our club to the community rallying behind our fundraising and development projects, your enthusiasm and support are what keep Portarlington Rugby Club strong.

Here’s to carrying this incredible momentum forward as we head into the final months of the year.

See you on the pitch, and let’s make November another winning month!

Yours Truly,

The Executive Committee
